ひらがなの書き間違いに気を付けて！ Be careful about making writing mistakes in Hiragana!
みなさん、こんにちは！最近、手紙を書いた人はいますか。
みなさんもちろんペンや鉛筆を持っているとは思うのですけど、
文章を書くとき、メッセージを伝えるときはほとんどパソコンやスマートフォンでタイプしていますよね。

Of course everyone has a pen and a pencil I think, but when you write or send a message it’s mostly by typing on the computer or smart phone, right?
今日は、似ているために間違えやすい平仮名とカタカナを改めて勉強しましょう。
Let’s review easily mistaken hiragana and katakana since they are similar today.
初級レベルを勉強されている方には、できるだけ手書きで宿題を提出してもらうようにしていますけれど、上級の方にもできれば手書きの文字の美しさを知ってもらいたいですね。
As much as possible I would like those who are studying at the beginning level to hand in homework written by hand.
However, if possible I would like the upper level students to know the beauty of handwritten characters.
書道を習ったことがある人は知っていると思いますが、
日本語の文字には「とめ」「はらい」「はね」があります。
ですから、それに気を付けて文字を書いてみると綺麗に見えますよ。
I think those who have learned calligraphy know that there are Japanese characters “tome”「とめ」, “harai”「はらい」and “hane”「はね」.
So take care to write the characters and that you can clearly read them.
さて、まずは平仮名から始めましょう。
「こ」「い」「り」の三つです。
Well, first let’s start with hiragana.
“ko”「こ」, “i”「い」and "ri"「り」are three hiragana letters.
パソコンのフォントや筆書きで見ると全然違いますけれど、
手書きで書くと曖昧な書き方もできてしまうんです。
下の写真を見てみてください。どうですか。
They look totally different on the computer screen or in brushstrokes but written by hand allows a vague way of writing.

そして「さ」と「ち」も画面上でみると最後の丸い部分の方向が違うだけなので、平仮名を最初に覚えるときに間違えやすいようです。
でも手書きで見ると、全く違う文字だとわかりますよね。
Seeing them on-screen only the direction of the last round part of “sa”「さ」and “chi”「ち」is different so when you memorize hiragana at first it’s easy to be mistaken.
Yet see it written by hand and you understand they’re totally different letters, right?
次は平仮名とカタカナが似ているので、間違いやすいものです。
「り」と「リ」です。こちらは画面で見るとしっかり違いがわかると思いますが、手書きで見るとあまり違いがないので、曖昧になってしまいがちです。
Next since hiragana and katakana are similar they are easily mistaken.
“ri”「り」 in hiragana and “ri”「リ」in katakana.
See these on the screen and I think you know the difference right away but see the handwriting and there’s not much difference so it tends to be unclear.
さて、カタカナも見てみましょう。
「ツ」と「シ」はみなさんがよく書き間違える二つの文字ですね。
今日は、しっかり書き方のコツをつかんでください。
イメージは、「ツ」は縦！「シ」は横！ですよ。

2 letters that everyone often writes incorrectly are “tsu”「ツ」and “shi”「シ」.

さて、みなさんどうでしたか。
筆じゃなくても、とめ、はらい、はねは表現できますので、
できるだけ手書きで綺麗な字を書けるようにしてみてください。

Even without a calligraphy brush you can write “tome” とめ、”harai” はらい and “hane” はね so please try to write beautiful letters by hand as much as possible.
手で文字を書くと漢字や単語も覚えやすいですし、是非、お勧めします。
Write by hand and it’s easier to memorize characters (kanji) and vocabulary. I absolutely recommend doing this.
また、書き順もバランスをとるのにはとても大事です。
綺麗に書けないな、バランスが取れないな、と思ったときは確認してみてください。
Maintaining stroke order and balance are very important, too.
