日本語のローマ字 母音編 The Roman Alphabet in Japanese language <Vowels>

みなさんは、ローマ字を使って日本語を勉強したことがありますか。

Have any of you ever studied Japanese using Roman letters (Roma-ji)?
ローマ字と英語のアルファベットのように使ってしまって、
日本人と話すときになかなか通じないということはありませんか。
Is there something that doesn’t quite get through when you speak with a Japanese person using Roman letters and English alphabet?
これをローマ字で読むときは、「め」です。
When you read "ME" in Romaji, it'll be pronounced "め" .
これをローマ字で読むときは、「みね」です。
When you read "mine" in Romaji, it'll be pronounced "みね" .
ローマ字と英語のアルファベットは違うことは、みなさん知っていますよね。
私のレッスンを受けたことがある人は、もう知っているかもしれませんが、
今日は気を付けておくと役に立つローマ字のシンプルな仕組みについて紹介します。
Romaji and English alphabet are different. Everyone knows that, right?
The people who have taken my lesson may already know but today I will introduce simple mechanism of useful Roman letters that you should be aware of.
まず、日本語には母音が5つしかありません。
ですから、ローマ字のA I U E Oには、それぞれ一つずつの音しかありません。
これは英語のアルファベットと違うとても大事なポイントです。
英語でA I U E Oの文字にはそれぞれ2つずつ音（単音と調音）があります。
First, there are only 5 vowels in Japanese.
So there are only one each for A I U E O of Roman letters.
This is a very important point that it’s different from the English alphabet.
In English there are 2 sounds (short and long) for each letter A I U E O.
みなさんは、辞書などに書いてある発音記号を見たことがありますか。
最近は、音声ガイドがついている辞書が多いので、
みなさんは記憶していないかもしれませんが、
英語の母音について発音記号と単語で確認していきましょう。
Has everyone seen the pronunciation symbols written in the dictionary?
Recently there are many dictionaries with a pronunciation guide. Everyone may not remember so let’s review pronunciation symbols and vocabulary for English vowels.
＜英語の A I U E O/ English A I U E O＞
A: 1. /æ/ map 2. /ei/ name
I: 3. /I/ pig 4. /aI/ time
U: 5. /ʌ/ but 6. /ju:/ mute
E: 7. /e/ pet 8. /i:/ me
O: 9. /ɒ/ not 10. /oʊ/ note
それでは、日本語の「あいうえお」の発音をこちらのビデオで確認しましょう。

それでは、外来語ををカタカナとローマ字で書いてみましょう。正しく読めますか。
Now let’s try to write each adopted word in katakana and Roman letters.
１．マップ mappu English: map
２．ネーム nēmu / neimu English: name
３．ピッグ piggu English: big
４．タイム taimu English: time
５．バット batto English: but/bat
６．ミュート myūto English: mute
７．ペット petto English: pet
８．ミー mī English: me
９．ノット notto English: nott/knot
10．ノート nōto English: note
